Dryer Vent Codes

Ugh.  The dreaded dryer code.  There are so many and everyone of them means something different.  How do you know which codes mean you need to get your dryer vent checked out?  These are the top five dryer brands and the codes indicating that you should get your dryer vent checked out:

LG - LG has a few different codes that indicate you’ve got a block in your dryer vent.  

-D75

-D80

-D90

-D95  

The numbers indicate the percentage of blockage in your vent.  D75 shows that there’s a 75% blockage in the vent, up to D95 that shows a 95% blockage in your vent.  

Whirlpool - Whirlpool has one of the easiest codes, Check Vent.  If you see this code you know you need to check the dryer vent and get it cleaned out.  Easy peasy lemon squeezy.  However,  there are also codes AF and F4E3.  These codes show that there is restricted airflow in your dryer which typically indicates that your vent is clogged and it needs to be cleaned out.  

Samsung - If you have a code starting with C on a Samsung dryer you most likely have a clogged dryer vent.  More specifically a code of Clg, CG, C8, C80, C9, or C90 shows a clogged vent.  Similar to LG dryers the numbers in the code indicate the percentage of clog in your vent.  C8 or C80 shows an 80% clog and C9 or C90 shows a 90% clog.  

GE - Is another easy coded dryer.  Check Vent indicates to check the vent.  A code of 01 indicates that there is an airflow problem, and typically an airflow problem is caused by a clogged vent.  

Maytag - Maytag dryers also show a Check Vent code or a code of AF. Similar to other brands a code of AF indicates an air flow problem which indicates that there is a clog in the vent. 

If you have an older dryer, or one that doesn’t have digital codes then here are a few things to look for: 

• Are your clothes taking longer than normal to dry?

• If you stop your dryer in the middle of the cycle is it not as hot as it usually is?

• Does your dryer have a hot smell while drying?

• A buildup of debris in your outside vent?
